SCORE Miami-Dade is partnering with microlender ACCION USA to give entrepreneurs the tools to succeed.

Candidates for microloans from ACCION USA in Miami-Dade County will be required to take a series of five workshops created by SCORE called Simple Steps for Growing Your Business. "Microlending is most effective when it's combined with SCORE workshops and mentoring," said Marjorie Weber, chair of SCORE Miami-Dade.

Graduates of the program, sponsored by BankUnited, will receive a certification from SCORE, a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration.

"We know SCORE will give our clients the assistance they need so they will be prepared to take the next steps in their business," said Fabiana Estrada, executive director for the ACCION nonprofit in Miami, which offers entrepreneurship education and business loans up to $50,000.

Weber said they hope to expand the program to other SCORE chapters in areas served by ACCION.
