About Us
Lunchtime shoppers at Plaza Fiesta-Atlanta's popular Latin American-inspired shopping center-relish the chicken, churros, and other delicious items at the Atlanta Churros Company. For entrepreneur Oscar Torres, the popular restaurant is the realization of a dream-to own his own restaurant and be his own boss.
Starting small, thinking bigNot long ago, the restaurant was just a dream for Oscar, who operated a food cart in Plaza Fiesta, selling churros to hungry lunchtime shoppers. But when a larger space opened up, Oscar decided to take the opportunity to expand to a full-fledged restaurant.
A friend told Oscar about ACCION USA, and he attended an orientation. That same day, he started a small business loan application. A $15,000 ACCION USA business loan enabled him to buy the commercial-grade kitchen equipment he needed to open his dream restaurant. "The loan from ACCION really helped me start this business," says Oscar. "It was an exciting opportunity for me."
An independent spiritThe Atlanta Churros Company is more than a job for Oscar. "I didn't want a nine-to-five job," he says. "Even though I now work longer hours, sometimes fourteen to sixteen hours a day, I like being my own boss much better."
