While the bargains and catchy jingles sported by huge mega stores seem inviting, I urge you to take a moment to think about the number of mom-and-pop retailers in your local area who would benefit much more from your business this holiday season.  You can learn more about who these small business owners are in our new video.

Not only will you be helping small business owners, but you’ll find that local businesses offer bonuses you won’t find in larger stores. Small business owners pride themselves on providing great customer service. The small storefront means that , you will less likely be battling crowds for the last pair of gloves on the rack, the freshest flowers, or that prime piece of meat for your holiday celebration dinner.

So this holiday season, give back to the people who make up your local small business community by shopping locally. You won’t be disappointed.

To make it as easy as possible for you to support local small businesses, no matter your location, we’re giving you a list of small, local retailers that sell online—all are ACCION USA clients, and all are locally owned small businesses that are giving back to their communities.

I love to support local business, my philosophy with shopping is the that the interaction and the feeling incured are more important than any money exchange. I love the way supporting local business feels and the memory of the entire purchase creates a story behind the gift. I often times am left with a frustrated and impatient feeling from shopping at big stores where I dont feel there is any customer service, I prefer a local shop with charm and care.

This is an excellent plug for local businesses. I am glad Accion USA, is taking a stronger look at helping local businesses not only with loans but with online promotion.

I have been an Accion Client for a few years and love their services. I would suggest that Accion helps local businesses get set up with Google Local and search engines.

My company helps local businesses get listed in search engines, social media sites, and other popular sites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Bing, and Google.

Keep up the Good work Accion! You have helped my business tremendously.

Check out the small business I started (thanks to Accion, of course) to help Boston artists sell more art, and to help the decorationally-challenged among us become comfortable choosing and buying their own fine art. It feels so great to support local artists, buy local, and buy existing original works (vs mass produced products). And it feels downright criminal to walk away from your good-deed-doing with a fantastic work of art. But be careful … I might make an art collector out of you!
